Do I have I use a waterproof membrane on a plasterboard wall in front of tile for a shower?
Our plumber, the solder is back for a new shower, told me that I waterproof membrane on the drywall before I need to use tiles using a. Is this really necessary, since the membrane is quite expensive?
I am not a plumber, but have several bathrooms fixed my own. Depending on building codes, you may have. Regardless of construction requirements, They want. If you are in a situation where you have the option and choose not to expect to be tearing out the old tiles and walls every few years. You can pay now or pay later. New construction is either the "green" drywall or cement board. The green card is a gypsum board, the water-tight is up. Cement board is just that, a bit more expensive and harder to (my opinion) work, but is pretty much last forever. I have seen other articles (below) recommending Cement Board green sea when you tile, indicating that it has less flex, and less likely to crack. I personally have used green board turn and had no problems with cracks or tile the wall. Maybe if your cleats are too far apart (older house), but should all the current houses are 18 "OC.
