Will I loose sound quality if I use a blue ray connected to surround sound with digital optical contrast with HDMI?
I would like to purchase a Surround-sound system and a blue ray player, however, have the surround sound, I selected only has an optical digital audio imput. No HDMI. Will I lose If I connect the quality of blue ray directly to the TV via HDMI and the surround sound through optical digit?
You will not loose the sound quality to Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround sound, but you can not get the best sound like DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD and uncompressed PCM up to 7.1-channel movies on Blu-ray disc encoded by the HDMI from Blu-ray player to the receiver that has HD decoders on board.
