No camera is good or bad on the whole, it is the way you use it and for what purpose define your style of camera. A photographer with good skills will be able to take some good snaps even with the low range cameras, while someone without the skills will not be able to have good snaps in-spite of having a good camera. So, what matters is the skill and the purpose. as you are looking for some good shots while travelling this one from Canon would be a very good one to opt for.
Canon SX20IS PowerShot is indeed a very good camera and it would prove to be more than sufficient for someone who is not into professional photograhy. Having said that I think that the specification of this one would be more than enough to have some good shots which would look as good as the pictures taken by a professional photographer.
