Digital Cameras

Can I use the remote control for a Canon Powershot digital camera for my Canon Rebel XSI?
I'm looking to buy a remote .. and found a beautiful Remote Control for PowerShot … and I have the rebel xsi. Its pretty cheap .. just wondering if you will work on the other. Thank you!
